Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Extending its theme of service to Kenya, Strathmore has inaugurated its third degree-granting college, the Strathmore School of
Hospitality and Tourism (“SSHT”). Dr. Ongong’a Achieng, the Managing Director of Kenya Tourist Board (KTB), presided over the launch of the school at the Strathmore campus in August.
SSHT has four programs: a 4-year Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism (Hospitality Management), a 4-year Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism (Tourism Management), a 2-year Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism for industry practitioners holding diplomas in either tourism or hospitality and who want to upgrade to a degree level, and Executive Management Development Programs. According to Mr. Joe Wadawi, Dean of SSHT, “One of the objectives of SSHT is to build a dynamic information base for industry and academia through research and development.”
SSHT aims to produce graduates with a local grounding and skills to enable them to work in the hospitality and tourism sector anywhere in the world. The programs have a strong ethics and management emphasis. They will also feature IT and international languages, including French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.
